This concept every moment is taking more protagonism in business, books, conference, etc. But what is Leadership? Do you want to be a leader? How do we become a leader?  Do we all need to be a leader?

The dictionary says that leadership is: “The ability of an individual to lead or guide other individuals or teams to the same goal.”  Although leadership is a part of this, this concept goes beyond that. It is a combination of: skills, experience, knowledge, fears, challenges, feelings, values, etc. This is a lot, but it also does not mean that leadership is the most overwhelming and complicated process.  However, yes, this ability will require you to examine and improve every aspect of your life.

First, when you lead you need to know your reason, why are you doing it? What is the purpose? Being a leader is a big responsibility for yourself, and for others. Being a leader is showing your vision and focusing others to the same goal. So, what is your goal? It needs to be a cause that you believe in 100%, a cause that you know will change lives, a cause where both sides are benefited. Never lead others towards something that you don’t feel is making lives better, because a leader knows the golden rule is to HELP PEOPLE. When someone asks me what leadership means, I define it as the process where one person can create change to help people.

Do you want to be a leader? Check on yourself first! Help yourself first! Whenever you are listening to the instructions on an airplane, they explicitly say: “please place the mask over your own mouth and nose before assisting others.”  If you faint, there’s no way you are able to help anyone else. I know we get excited, we want to make positive changes in people’s lives and lead them to the best purposes and goals, but what about you? Are you tracking your goals? Are you happy, healthy, motivated? Are you following your own advice? Because the second golden rule is to LEAD BY EXAMPLE. If you are leading a group to increase their sales, first show them how many sales you are making.  Explain your system, and how they AND you can use it to improve. Leading a workout group? What is your routine, diet, supplements?  You need to show them proof of what you are talking about.  Show them that it works and is beneficial for them. Whatever your leadership area is, the golden rules will always apply!

Becoming a leader is a time where you really need to prove who you want to be, you will earn leadership, not demand it, and you will need to give more than you will receive. Everyday requires constant self-reflection: How can I improve? What information am I consuming? How am I growing? Because people are following you, you need to be aware of your actions and how they will affect your team. Being a leader is knowing that there exists a better life, and with hard work, strategic systems, and support, you will achieve it. Do not call yourself a leader if you do not: learn something new every day, track your goals, or want to create a real impact in people’s lives.

I highly recommend reading this book.  It has personally helped me to grow and understand my leadership style and qualities.

This book will give you 90 days to ask, help, and develop yourself as a leader. This book will not miraculously make you a good leader, it is just simply one of the key tools to help you.  A leader’s life is a constant evolution of finding the best for you and your people!

Does everyone need to be a leader? I don’t think so. Beauty comes with diversity, the world needs different points of view, dreams, and knowledge. Be happy, and find your purpose. Even though I don’t think everyone has to be a leader, I will contradict myself a bit with my third golden rule: UNDOUBTEDLY, YOU HAVE TO BE A LEADER OF YOURSELF!  This is no obligation to lead other people.  You have to make the decision that is best for you.  Choosing to lead others does not make you any better or worse than anyone else.

There are a lot of people who are selectively forced leaders, but in the end the only person who knows your true purpose is you. Do not lie to yourself.  If you really want to be a leader, amazing, but be your best and make your team the absolute best versions of themselves.
